On 16 September 2026, the Mobitrust team carried out field tests at the Bombeiros Voluntários de Serpins, in the municipality of Lousã, a region surrounded by dense forest where fast and reliable situational awareness is essential for firefighting operations. The tests aimed to validate live video transmission from the field under real operating conditions.
A camera was installed on the roof of a fire vehicle, which carried out a patrol round through several areas around Serpins, including zones with little to no visibility from fixed points, such as valleys and roads hidden by the forest canopy. Throughout the round, the video was recorded and transmitted live over the mobile network to the Mobitrust system, allowing the command post to follow the vehicle's position and see exactly what the crew was seeing.
In parallel, a second camera was installed at the top of the fire station tower, overlooking the surrounding forest. This camera could be remotely rotated and zoomed from the dashboard, giving operators a wide, controllable view of the same areas covered by the patrol. The dashboard also displayed fire risk and weather information on the map, bringing video and environmental context together in a single view.
The station commander joined the team on the patrol round and followed the tests first-hand, giving positive feedback and highlighting how useful the cameras are for monitoring hard-to-see areas. The tests demonstrated the potential of the Mobitrust platform for forest surveillance, early fire detection and support to firefighting operations, improving situational awareness and helping commanders make faster, better-informed decisions.
