Mobitrust Conducts Tests at the Port of Aveiro with a 5G Remotely Operated Boat

Mobitrust 2026-01-14

Within the scope of the Mobitrust project, operational tests were carried out at the Port of Aveiro using a vessel remotely controlled from a web dashboard through low-latency 5G communications. The tests aimed to validate the system’s performance in complex and demanding scenarios where communication reliability and situational awareness are essential.

The vessel was equipped with multiple aquatic environment monitoring sensors, enabling continuous data collection. At the same time, real-time video transmission to the command post was ensured, providing operators with a continuous and detailed view of the operational area.

In addition, Artificial Intelligence algorithms were tested for video and sensor data analysis, enabling the automatic detection and identification of people, boats, floating waste, and other relevant objects in critical mission scenarios. These capabilities support faster response times, improved risk assessment, and reduced human exposure to potentially hazardous environments.

The tests conducted at the Port of Aveiro demonstrated the potential of the technologies developed within Mobitrust for applications in maritime surveillance, port security, environmental monitoring, and support to critical operations, highlighting the role of 5G connectivity and Artificial Intelligence in enhancing operational efficiency and safety.
